SOĞANLIDERE MARTYRDOM

Soğanlıdere Hospital Martyrdom, which was opened on 18th March 2005 and was constructed by Zeytinburnu Municipality, will meet us a few hundred metres away from the Soğanlıdere Air Martyrdom and above the rightward. The Martyrdom is figured as star and crescent; the sharp pointed structure in the middle of the star represents the rising of the martyrs to God. The names of our 600 martyrs are written. Soğanlıdere is a real martyr’s graveyard and our soldiers became martyrs while they were getting treatment in the hospitals which were built in the war time and they were buried here. Soğanlıdere valley was home to the supply and warehouse storages of the South Group Commandership and to the four division hospitals of the shore set batteries prepared for 18th March. In short, It was an area where the Turkish soldiers’ food was cooked and handed over.

Another important point is that there appears a run-down ruin on the right side of the way before arriving to Soğanlıdere Martyrdom. It was a Lady Melek’s infirmary. In the same way, it was an area where our soldiers were treated.

Although it was written in the entrance of the Martyrdom that there are 600 martyrs buried here, it has been known that there are thousands of Turkish soldiers buried. The hospitals in Soğanlıdere belonged to 2nd, 7th, 12th and 15th Divisions. Lastly, Soğanlıdere has a complicated structure. When you see the hometowns of the martyrs, you can see that the soldiers were from different regions.
