UNKNOWN SOLDIER MEMORIAL
During the Çanakkale Wars, an Anzac soldier took our Turkish martyr’s head to the Australia and embalmed, then kept it for 87 years. Our martyrs head was found by an Anzac grandchild and delivered it to the police. After that, Australian Veterans Organization sent it to Ramazan Altıntaş who was the Turkish Department chairman of Returned Soldiers Associations.
There was some hair and a few teeth on the martyrs head which was kept in a velvet box. There were bullet holes on the left eye and back part of the skull. It was delivered to the Turkish authorities on 10th March 2003 and was buried in the garden of Memorial with a formal ceremony on 18th March 2003.
